DNS Administration

The online name server interface allows you to create the foundations for any new web site you host. This simple and easy to use interface will allow you to create, update, change or delete records in real-time at the touch of a button.

If this is the first domain you are hosting please follow the simple walk through below

Walk Through

  1. Login with your username and password.
  2. Click on "add new domain".
  3. In the company name enter the company you are hosting the domain for.
  4. Enter the domain name in the Primary Fields box twice (once for www.domain.com once for domain.com, followed by the IP address of your server.
  5. In the "Mail Server MX Records" you will need to enter your mail server name i.e: "pop3.domain.com".
    Backup mail servers are also available, contact
    sales@ukfast.net
  6. You will now need to make a note of what you have just done in the "Description" box. A good example is "added primary records - initials - date"
  7. Click Save
Well done you have now hosted your first domain on your name servers, the DNS servers are updated every 4 hours.

Opening Page

Once you have logged on you will be presented with the main page. The option's which are offered on this page are:

Add new domain

This is were you added new domain's to your name server. If you have not yet added a domain, please take a moment to read the walk through guide.

Logoff

This will log you out of the DNS system and return you to the log on screen

Show Details

You will be able to view the details of the domain's you have in the system here, in the knowledge that you are unable to alter them.

Edit

This will allow you to remove or add information as you need. The only field you cannot edit is the domain name. You will have to create a new domain if you have made a mistake when typing the original domain name in. You will also have to note down what you have done in the "comment's" box before you can save your work.

Delete





A Name

A Name records are basically your Domain Name and sub-domains. You need to enter an IP address next to them so that people will be able to browse to your website via the Domain Name

Sub-domains

To add a Sub-Domain to the DNS records you will have to enter it in to "other A name records" section. Enter the Domain Name you want to use as a Sub-Domain, enter the IP address of your web server in the following boxes and click Add. If you want to remove a Sub-Domain then select it from the list and click "Remove".

MX Records

MX records control your mail you will need to enter the name of your mail server here. This is in the form pop3.domain.com. Backup mail servers are also available, contact sales@ukfast.net .

C Name

C Name records are aliases for domain names. You will need to type the alias you require (i.e: smtp.domain.com) in to the left hand box and the destination (i.e: post.domain.com) in the right hand box. C Name records aren't used frequently and we recommend not using them.

Comments

You will have to add a comment every time you create or amended a record. This can be helpful in tracking down problems. We suggest adding comments in the format "details - initials - date"
